Bacon Water Chestnuts

Yes these are holiday follow ups.  This one was at my mom's request.  Her recipe card is trashed!  This way I don't have to look for them next year!

1 lb lean bacon
whole water chestnuts
3 c. brown sugar
3 c. catsup
1/2 c. soy sauce
1/2 c. vinegar

Cut bacon in small strips.  Wrap bacon around chestnut and secure with toothpick.

Bring brown sugar, catsup, soy sauce and vinegar to a low boil.

Dip the chestnuts into the sauce and put on a cookie sheet.

Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

After chestnuts have baked, drain the fat off them and turn them on their sides so the bottom will brown.  This sauce may also be used for meatballs.  These may also be frozen.

7 cans of chestnuts does 3 pounds of bacon.
